West Oglethorpe Lane is an alley in historic downtown Savannah. Though it functions as a typical “back-end” space, it also serves as the center of the Independent Presbyterian Church of Savannah (IPC) and Veritas Academy. It is heavily trafficked by pedestrians, acting as a connector to important cultural and institutional facilities such as the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools Administration Building and the iconic Chippewa Square. IPC had a desire to rejuvenate the lane – not just for their campus, but for the City of Savannah as a whole – with upgrades made to sidewalks and crosswalks, newly defined parking spaces and bicycle parking bollards.
